Amazon to Start Collecting Minnesota Sales Tax

I read in the Star Tribune today that the giant e-commerce website, Amazon.com, is going to start collecting sales tax in Minnesota starting October 1st. Does this mean you should go out and make all of your Amazon purchases before October 1st? Well, by law you are supposed to already be paying sales tax on all of your online purchases, regardless of whether the e-tailor is collecting the tax or not. It's called "use" tax.

So does this mean this isn't actually news? My guess is not everyone is actually reporting and paying their use tax so this will ensure sales tax is collected and paid.  I'm not going to recommend you go out and make your purchases before the 1st but I just thought I'd pass along the news...
